Hope everyone had a GREAT twilight weekend,  we had such a blast at the Ike&Jane.  The place was FULL of giggles and bike clips!  Unfortunately, we ran out of donuts EARLY both days. Never fear... more next weekend!

We're getting ready for summer!  Come try our homemade lemonade... it's too delicious to be true.

Tomato Soup For The Soul

It isn’t often (unfortunately) that I have an experience that makes me think, “I need to write this down.” For my sanity and for a variety of other reasons, I’m glad I ate at Ike and Jane for lunch today.

I am an often workaholic businesswoman who, although I love my job and wake up actually looking forward to my ritualistic morning drive towards downtown, tend to be so busy and the proverbial “stressed out” during the day that I have all but forgotten how to appreciate the little day-to-day things I used to love so much. Caught up in the lunch meetings that consist of little more than gray suits, spinach or Niçoise salads and Diet Cokes, I realized by eating lunch at Ike and Jane, and actually taking the time to sit down by myself and (slowly) eat, was what I had been missing.

In an unintentional reversion to my childhood, I ordered a peanut butter and Nutella sandwich and a cup of tomato soup. Although they have the best tomato soup in town by far and probably even the best I’ve ever had in my life, I found more than really good food there. Looking out over Prince Avenue while I ate my gooey sandwich and childishly blew on my spoonfuls on soup, I found myself thinking about walking through hot blades of grass in my bare feet; my second grade teacher, Ms. Thompson, who caught me cheating on a multiplication test and taught me about being an honest person while becoming my favorite teacher in the process; the breeze blowing random pieces of hair across my face in the sunlight; my sweet and hippie-ish friend, Alden, who lives in Charleston and who I don’t get to see much anymore; my high school boyfriends and college buddies; the things I used to want and dream about before the daily mundaneness got in the way. I wanted it to be a Sunday afternoon with no cars on the street; I wanted people who remembered what it was like to be relaxed and gracious and kind; I wanted a mind that didn’t quite overthink things so much. As I sat there in the middle of my busy Tuesday afternoon, I found myself wondering what time they closed and trying to make excuses to not leave. I thought not only about myself and my long-lost friends, but also realized what I have overlooked about Athens in recent years: all the wonderful little hidden watering holes and soul food spots and idiosyncrasies that made me fall in love with this town. As I watched my Blackberry die and polished off the last sip of my tea, I left feeling like a new person, a better person, the person my mom always wanted me to be. And seriously, try the tomato soup.

Woooooo It's Friday. I'm falling back in love with the internet! I promise this time. I'm gonna fall back in love with the internet. Taxes are OVER (ish), Summer is on it's way... Graduates better get ready!!

Oh, and TWILIGHT is next weekend. (woah girls, don't get too excited. it's the BIKE twilight, not the vampire twilight... that's in... June?) So come on out, we're ready for some fun and goodtimes.

Which... to be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about... But hey... TV! awesome!

Hope everyone is recovering from their weekend sugar coma!  We saw some awesome costumes this weekend and had a great time seeing those of you who could actually make it out of the house on Sunday!

Welcome to November! In case you didn't already notice... time changed over the weekend (I say this because some of my shining staff has still been getting to work an hour early... and not just to impress me)  So I hope you enjoyed your extra hour of sleep on Sunday! 

And with that time change comes time to gear up for another holiday... THANKSGIVING!

We're working on a few specials to throw into the mix this month that involve the illustrious bird and his good friend cranberry sauce, so keep your eyes open for updates on our menu.

We're also working on getting together a sign up sheet just in case you'd like to pre-order  Pecan or Pumpkin Pie for you to take home with you for Thanksgiving day!  We'll be making ENTIRELY local Pecan Pies from scratch for you to pick up the day before Thanksgiving. We're facepainting all day today... AND! we've made a pact with ourselves to update everyday.  Yes, we said EVERY.DAY.  It's a whole new relationship between Ike&Jane and the internet.

The staff is all decked out like Waldo (of where's waldo?! fame) and if you can find our own printed out Waldo you'll get 10% off your entire order!

So, come on in and enjoy some facepainting and candy handouts!  Awesome Pumpkin Donuts are flying out of the donut case and we're having a great time!

2) Loaded Baked Potato  (sooo delicious that I've had three  bowls of it today... and yes, it's not even noon)

3) Chicken Stew  (a brothy hearty Chicken Stew with tomatoes, onion, celery and other veggies.

Jane Came a Calling!

Alright.  I know I've been a terrible (read: TERRIBLE) blogger lately, but we're gonna get back on track!

Today we had  very busy day despite the rain and all the better because 1: We love to see your shining faces and 2: Nana Jane (the original JANE!) came from Florida to visit and have a sandwich!

Needless to say we had a wonderful time visiting and she was thrilled to see her "namesake" bringing smiles to so many people.

Gazpacho is in the works as I type and some delicious apple blondies are flying off the shelves today.

Get'em while they're hot!

We also finally got around to replacing the mint and basil that has been slowly dying (though we've done our best to keep them alive, I promise!) in the bright bright sun of our patio just as the rain came in on Sunday.  Everything is much cheerier!
